As an expat family one of the traditions we hold from our birth nation is the Christmas food. However over the years we have added a few things to the traditional Swedish Christmas buffet (aka Julbord) and there are probably several dishes other Swedes would consider missing. The essentials are there, as well as the homemade candy and Christmas special baked favourites that we enjoy over the three Christmas days. Yes three, we celebrate Christmas Eve (the giving gifts and “true” Christmas day), Christmas Day and Boxing Day to make the most of it.
