Chocolate Balls

200 g butter
1.5 dl (150 ml) sugar
5 ml vanilla powder
3.5-4 tbsp cocoa
6 dl (600 ml) oats
3-4 tbsp water
pearl sugar, sprinkles or desiccated coconut

Stir the butter so it is soft. Add all the other ingredients and mix everything together. Make into balls and roll them in sprinkles, coconut or sugar.

Chocolate balls are the first thing a Swedish child learns to bake. No machines needed, no oven or microwave. Recipes vary. Some replace the water with coffee and some adults like to add some liqueur. We prefer ours plain and child friendly.
